What is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly ?

The stand-alone mod S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly aims to be the most stable and customizable experience for fans of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. It’s powered by the Monolith 64-bit engine, a custom fork of the X-Ray engine.

Players can choose from a variety of ways to play the mod. Play story mode with 4 chapters of interesting quests, sandbox mode if you prefer to make up your own story, or the combat intense warfare mode where factions fight for influence and control over different areas of the zone.

Anomaly is also highly customizable, play it the way you like and have the most fun. There are hundreds of settings that can be tweaked in the options menus and for more advanced changes, there are over 1000 addons for Anomaly that were created by other players to change the experience in more advanced ways.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly Features

1- 3D PDA
When holding the PDA in the lowered position, stalkers can track their position on the map while walking around. This will make it easier to navigate towards map markers like hidden stashes or mission objectives.

– And to interact with the PDA it can be held closer to your eyes so it will fill almost the whole screen and the text on it is more readable. If you prefer the old style 2D PDA we even added an option to switch back to it, but real stalkers would not do that.

2- Story
“Lost to the Zone” Storylines has been added to 1.5 update, with its three installations:

Part 1: Living Legend: a famous stalker has returned to the Zone. Pursue him in order to obtain his invaluable knowledge.
Part 2: Mortal Sin: a sinister faction emerges from obscurity to take over the Zone. You are among the few who can stop them.
Part 3: Operation Afterglow: the Zone attracts a lot of attention. However, some people believe that its many secrets are best kept hidden.
– And the new bonus story:
Part 4: Hollow Boundaries: play as a member of a foreign force to investigate and reveal the secrets of the Zone.

– Additionally, you’re free to assist your faction and complete their questlines.
– The majority of quests will offer info about your targets before accepting, in addition to new types of quests to keep the player busy.
– Every stage of the storylines will unlock a bonus faction for the player. A new set of achievements have been added to game as well.

3- Atmosphere
Every single level has been reworked to help convey the feeling of an overgrown, relatively undisturbed Zone. The weather system is improved and expanded to offer variety and atmospheric feel.

– Shaders and visual effects have received major improvements, such as the new gasmask with nice refractions, cracks react to light and raindrops. In addition to better tone mapping, water reflections, new wet surface shaders and more.

4- A-Life
The A-Life received major changes. For a start, stalkers travel more frequently and report their activity in the other parts of the Zone.

The Zone is constantly changing, so are the anomalies and mutants. Dynamic world items are everywhere around you, even in places you might not expect. Each playthrough will carry something different for you to look for. Explore the Zone, and you might find something nice during your journey.

Special characters and common stalkers offer more unique tasks, along with expanded dialogue. Stalkers can sell and buy items from traders, or even visit local mechanics to upgrade their favorite weapons. In addition: Loners, Mercs and a few others can offer escort services for a fee. Many special characters also have connections around the Zone: you can offer them a payment to bribe an enemy faction, temporarily preventing them from attacking on sight.

The disguise system has improved. Your equipment and behavior affects the way stalkers observe and remember you. And a new experimental feature will make stealth kills more viable to kill enemies sneakily.
Your rank and reputation counts. Exceptionally high or low values respectively will attract attention, possibly even from your enemies…

Features of Old Good STALKER Evolution:

  • Back in 2010 no one could imagine that a small update for 0.6.9.2 R2 in the end, after four years, will result in the most high-tech mod for SoC. New technologies are outstanding, sometimes our programmers have done something that GSC wasn’t capable to do or what was considered impossible to do without access to the source code of the game.
  • Unfortunately, not everything was so remarkable: almost the entire 2013th year dropped out from the development for various reasons: tiredness of the game, personal affairs, technical difficulties, permanent bugfixes. All of this resulted in leaving of many talented persons out from the team, that’s why many ideas were not implemented.
  • Many ideas were abandoned due to lack of necessary specialists. Unfortunately, those who asked to join the team, quickly disappeared over the horizon. And we can’t made all by ourselves. To the end of 2013 modification was a kind of alpha-version with a bunch of bugs. But there were really creative and committed comrades who undertook the correction of that stuff. Now therefore modification became quite good product
  • There were much negative toward the GSC, which issued Stalker SOC in the form in which we all was originally played. During development OGSE constantly faced with terrible hacks, made by developers from GSC. Why is it so – not for us to judge, but believe me, we swore a lot, finding another bug from original game. Moreover, even before release we found another serious bug with suit protection system: to put it briefly, some of parameters did not work ever. What is even more interesting: the greater was the protection of the suit, the weaker he protected; believe it or not.
  • Locations were not good either – they were terrible. Holes in AI-map, untied nods, which are not good for mod stability. In OGSE 0.6.9.3 all found bugs were eliminated
  • A lot of good words must be said about our programmers Alexander and Konstantin (Malandrinus and KD). One should thank them for the technical features of mod. Now playing STALKER, you can enjoy unprecedented visual effects and gameplay features that can’t be seen in other mod for SOC. And all this was done without the source code. We do not have anything to hide, and the majority of tweaks is available to anyone who wishes in a project “X-ray extensions” (http://code.google.com/p/xray-extensions/)
  • Of course, we had to make some sacrifices, such as deleting R1-renderer. But it was right: all the efforts went to develop “dynamic lighting” renderer, which is only capable for all new graphical effects like “sunshafts”, “reflections”, etc. In addition, we speeded up the work with shaders, as well as loading saves.
  • We also thank Roman (abramcumner) for quests bugfixing after Jek@n left mod team.
  • And of course, we can not forget about Yuri (Simply Yuri), the man who brought developers in anger not only with his opinion about what is good and what is bad, how to do and how not to do, but with his meticulous study of each inch of the location, each wrong deviation of NPC, etc. And constantly slotting about correction of these bugs.
  • And when I look back in the far year 2010 and look at the day today, I think it’s safe to say that the time was well spent, though not always optimal:-)
